Israeli Supreme Court Rejects Appeals by Striking Prisoners

RAMALLAH, May 7, 2012 (WAFA) – The Israeli Supreme Court Monday rejected appeals by the hunger-striking Palestinian prisoners, Thaer Halahleh and Bilal Diab, to end their administrative arrest, said a statement released by the Palestinian Prisoner Club (PPC). The two prisoners entered Monday 70 days of hunger strike.

Jawad Boulus, head of the PPC legal department, said the Israeli judges and for the first time pointed to the issue of administrative detention and the confidential evidence as well as the prisoners’ medical conditions.

Halahleh and Diab went on an open-ended hunger strike on February 28 protesting their arrest without charge or trial.

Diab has been admitted to hospital in Israel suffering serious deterioration in his health.

Boulus warned that the two prisoners are in serious life-threatening situation.
