Foreign Minister Values Peru’s Recognition of Palestinian State

RAMALLAH, January 24, 2011 (WAFA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad Al Malki valued Wednesday Peru’s recognition of Palestine as a free and sovereign state.

Peruvian minister of foreign relations, José Antonio García Belaúnde, informed Palestinian Ambassador to Peru, Walid Abdel Rahim, of his country’s official recognition of Palestine on the June 1967 lines.

Malki said this recognition, the eighth of its kind from Latin America, reflects the success of Palestinian diplomatic efforts to gain the largest number of recognitions from world governments of the state of Palestine.

“These efforts come as a direct response to attempts by the government of Israel to prevent countries from recognizing the Palestinians' right to establish their independent state on their land,” he said.
