PLO: More than 1000 Prisoners Subjected to Medical Experiments by Israeli Physicians
RAMALLAH, April 16, 2007, (WAFA)-PLO National and International Relations Department said that the Israeli Prisons' authorities subjected more than a thousand Palestinian prisoners for medical experiments at the hands of Israeli physicians.
In a report issued Monday, it revealed that 25 percent of the Palestinian people entered the occupation's prisons since the beginning of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip in 1967, adding that 11,000 prisoners are still incarcerated in Israeli jails, some of them spent more than 30 years.
The report pointed out that among those arrested there are 110 female , 398 children , 850 administrative detainees without trial, and 64 spent in prison more than 20 years. There are 41 members of the Palestinian Legislative Council, 15 prisoners held in solitary cells since five years ago as well as 187 prisoners died in jails as a result of torture or medical negligence.
As for the sick prisoners, the report showed that 1000 sick prisoners held in Israeli prisons, 150 of whom suffer from chronic diseases, while 30 are still permanently in the hospitals' prisons, simply because of their serious health conditions. All of them have been subjected to medical experiments conducted involuntarily by Israeli physicians.
The report appealed to the United Nations and the International Red Cross and all humanitarian institutions to shoulder their responsibilities towards the prisoners and compel Israeli occupation authorities to apply the Fourth Geneva Convention and stop the daily unjust and inhumane arrests against the Palestinian people.
