Two minors among 25 Palestinians detained from West Bank

JERUSALEM, Tuesday, 19 November 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli forces today overnight detained at least 25 Palestinians, including two minors, from various parts of the occupied West Bank, said the Palestine Prisoner’s Society and local sources.

The Silwan-based Wadi Hilweh Information Center confirmed that Israeli police raided Issawiya, a Palestinian neighbourhood of East Jerusalem, detaining 15 Palestinians after ransacking their families’ houses.

For the approximately 20,000 residents of the neighbourhood, military raids and home demolitions are a daily reality.

The neighbourhood is plagued by poor infrastructure, residents are constantly harassed by the Israeli Border Police and anyone, including children, run the risk of arbitrary arrest.

In Ramallah district, Israeli military vehicles raided Deir Nidham village, northwest of Ramallah city, where soldiers rounded up two minors.

Local sources identified the two detainees as ninth graders.

A similar overnight military raid was conducted in Silwad town, east of Ramallah city, resulting in the detention of a former prisoner.

In Hebron district, Israeli soldiers conducted multiple raids across al-Arroub refugee camp, north of Hebron city, resulting in the detention of three Palestinians, including two teens.

In the northern West Bank, Mayor of Sebastia, a town to the northwest of Nablus city, confirmed that an Israeli military force detained a former prisoner and seized cash after storming his house in the town.

Three other Palestinians, including two former prisoners, were rounded up in an Israeli military raid in Jenin refugee camp.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
