TULKARM , Wednesday, July 08, 2020 (WAFA) – Israeli forces today delivered military orders to seize a plot of land belonging to the farmers of Shufa village, southeast of the northern West Bank city of Tulkarm, according to a local source.
Tahseen Hamed, a local activist, told WAFA that Israeli forces posted military orders in Arabic and Hebrew with an enclosed map showing the location of the plot of land, which occupies an area of 3.5 dunums, near the checkpoint at the junction leading to the village, purportedly for security reasons.
He added that the farmers who own the plot have the legal documents attesting to their ownership of it, noting that the land is planted with olive, fig and vine trees and is considered a source of their livelihood.
The land to be seized is located approx. two-kilometres away from the nearby illegal Israeli colonial settlement of Avni Hevets noting that the village is frequently targeted by Israeli forces who at times prevent farmers from accessing their lands as they continue to raze lands seized to make room for colonial settlement expansion.
Such Israeli measures, taken under the guise of security, are intended to entrench Israel’s 53-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler colonial project which it enforces with routine and frequently deadly violence against Palestinians.
