Palestinians suffocate in clashes east of Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, Tuesday, June 23, 2020 (WAFA) – A number of Palestinian youth suffocated by tear gas during clashes that broke out in the town of Abu Dis, on the outskirts of Jerusalem, in the aftermath of the killing of a Palestinian at a major military checkpoint, northeast of the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem.

Witnesses said that Israeli forces attacked youth with rubber-coated steel bullets, tear gas canisters, and stun grenades, causing several suffocation cases among them.

Earlier this evening, Israeli forces shot 28-year-old Ahmad Mustafa Eriqat, a resident of Abu Dis town, and left him bleeding to death on the ground.

Mayor of Abu Dis Ahmad Abu Hilal said Eriqat was driving his car from his hometown of Abu Dis to Bethlehem to pick up his sister, whose wedding was planned for today, from a beauty salon when he was shot and killed at the checkpoint clearly in cold blood.
