RAMALLAH, July 2, 2018 (WAFA) – A visit to Khan al-Ahmar community, east of Jerusalem on Sunday by staff from the Israeli military government’s so-called Civil Administration, raised alarm that Israel is preparing to demolish the Bedouin community.

The Israeli Supreme Court gave the army the green light on May 24 to go ahead with the demolition of the community, including a school, to prepare for the construction of a settlement on its land. An estimated 180 people, half of them children, will be displaced as a result.

A video showed the Israeli staff inspecting the area, which left an impression that the demolition of the community could take place anytime,

Members of the Jahalin tribe, who make up the Khan al-Ahmar community, said military staff took measurements for rooms and listed possessions in addition to taking measurement on the main Jerusalem-Jericho road where the community is located.

The United Nations, the European Union and many other countries have warned Israel against demolishing the community.

The Foreign Ministry condemned on Monday in a statement plans to demolish Khan al-Ahmar describing it as ethnic cleansing.
