Newspaper review: presidential spokesman’s statement focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, June 24, 2018 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Sunday issue on statements made by Nabil Abu Rudainah, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, regarding the current visit of to the region by US Senior Advisor Jared Kushner and Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt, in an effort to advance their so-called “deal of the century”.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds quoted Abu Rudeineh as saying, “The American delegation should abandon the illusion that creating false facts and falsifying history are going to help it sell those illusions.”

According to al-Ayyam daily, Abu Rudainah said the current efforts by Greenblatt and Kushner will only “lead to a dead end”.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Saeb Erekat, Secretary General of the PLO, who said that the visit of the US delegation to the region “aims to dissolve the UNRWA, annul the refugees issue and overthrow the Palestinian leadership”.

Al-Ayyam said Erekat said the US administration “chose occupation instead of peace” and that it wants to establish a “besieged state in Gaza”.

Al-Ayyam said that according to sources, Greeblatt and Kushner were “begging” Arab countries to be able to meet with President Abbas.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli army enforced a closure of the village of al-Khader near Bethlehem after three of its soldiers were lightly injured after being run over by a Palestinian driver near the village on Saturday evening.

It quoted Palestine’s Permanent Observer to the UN, Riyad Mansour, who said that the “extremism of the US and Israeli administration reflects on the aggressive policies against our people”.
