Abu Rudeineh: Ideas that ignore the Palestinian rights will reach a dead end

RAMALLAH, June 23, 2018 (WAFA) - Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, said on Saturday that American ideas or deals that bypass the Palestinian leadership’s position on Jerusalem, statehood and refugees will only lead to a dead end.

Reacting to the tour of the region by US Senior Advisor Jared Kushner and Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt and their meetings with Arab and Israeli officials in an effort to advance their so-called “deal of the century” on a Palestinian-Israeli peace, Abu Rudeineh said "the American delegation should abandon the illusion that creating false facts and falsifying history are going to help it sell those illusions."

He said that "the right address for achieving a just and lasting peace that cannot be bypassed, neither regionally nor internationally, is the Palestinian decision-maker represented by President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian leadership supported by the legitimate international community and the Arabs, who made this clear to the American delegation."

He said, "Despite the burden of regional issues, there are things that cannot be weighed with gold and humanitarian aid, or solutions that try to cut from a more than 100-year-old historical conflict."

Abu Rudeineh said, "To continue tampering with the fate of the region will not only increase tension. A solution to the conflict is only possible with the Palestinian people and their national leadership, supported by their Arab brethren as a whole and their governments."

He concluded by saying, "What is required after the end of the US delegation‘s tours to the region is for the American administration to understand the need to stop pursuing imaginary political alternatives and projects aimed at splitting the Palestinian homeland to prevent the establishment of our Palestinian state. Real peace demands commitment to the resolutions of the international organization that are based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders through an international mechanism that will restore balance and confidence in the possibility of returning to the right path of peace."
