RAMALLAH, June 21, 2018 (WAFA) – The Palestinian government said on Thursday that it will cover all costs for the treatment of a 14-year-old Palestinian child who lost his sight while in Israeli detention due to medical negligence, Minister of Health Jawad Awwad announced on Thursday.
He said during a visit to the child, Hassan Tamimi, from the Ramallah-area village of Nabi Saleh, at his hospital bed at Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah that President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah have given instructions to cover all hospital costs anywhere in the world that would help him restore his sight.
Israeli forces detained Tamimi on charges of throwing stone at them and he was held in detention for several weeks despite their knowledge of his critical health condition and the problems he had with his sight, which required him to take medicine on regular bases and needed continuous medical attention.
Plans were made to transfer Tamimi to St. John’s Eye Hospital in East Jerusalem on Thursday and if needed to any other specialized hospital in the world.
