UPDATE: President discusses developments in Middle East ahead of 29th Arab League summit

 

DHAHRAN, April 14, 2018 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met on Saturday with his Egyptian counterpart Abdul-Fattah el-Sisi on the sideline of the 29th ordinary Arab League summit in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, where they discussed the overall situation in the Middle East.

The President briefed el-Sisi on the vision he had presented before the UN Security Council in which he stressed the need for a multi-lateral international peace conference that calls for the creation of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. 

The two leaders also discussed ways to enhance the relations between Palestine and Egypt and the need to mobilize Arab support for Palestine.

Abbas also met his Tunisian counterpart Beji Caid Essebsi on the sideline of the Arab summit in Dhahran.

The President also met with Mikhail Bogdanov, Special Envoy of the Russian President for the Middle East and Deputy Foreign Minister and discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, particularly the Palestinian issue.

He further briefed Bogdanov on the continued Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people and their Muslim and Christian holy sites.
