CAIRO, December 9, 2017 (WAFA) - The Egyptian Coptic Church Saturday announced that Pope Tawadros of Alexandria II declined to meet with US Vice President Mike Pence during his visit to Egypt on December 20th.
The statement issued by the Church said the decision was reached in line with the position of Ahmed el-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, who also declined to meet with Pence to express rejection of US President Donald Trump’s decision to transfer the embassy of his country from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
