President welcomes international efforts to salvage two-state solution

RAMALLAH, August 31, 2016 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Wednesday said that any international effort is welcomed to salvage the two-state solution and establish independent Palestinian state.

Abbas said the Palestinian leadership welcomes any international effort aimed to salvage the two-state solution and establish the independent Palestinian state on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He underscored the importance of international support to the French bid to convene an international Middle East peace conference before the end of 2016 in order to bring the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to an end and establish the Palestinian state.

He made his remarks during a meeting with China’s special envoy to the Middle East Gong Xiaosheng at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

Abbas briefed Xiaosheng on the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and underscored the important role that China could play in this regard and appreciated China’s support for the Palestinian people.

Xiaosheng affirmed his country’s support to the French bid to convene an international peace conference in order to establish the Palestinian state based on the two-state solution.
