RAMALLAH, April 2, 2013
(WAFA) – Sixty four-year-old Palestinian major general Maysara Abu Hamdya,
suffering from cancer, died on Tuesday morning due to deliberate medical
negligence by the Israeli prison services, according to Issa Qaraqi, Minister
of Prisoners Affairs.
Abu Hamdya was detained
in Israeli jails since 2002 and was serving lifetime in prison.
Qaraqi said Abu Hamdiya’s
health condition was severely deteriorating and did not get the proper
treatment while he was in jail causing cancer to spread in the lymph and throat
becoming life threatening.
Abu Hamdiya was
transferred on Saturday morning to hospital in a very serious condition, where
he suffered from swelling in the lymph nodes, sharp drop in weight, inability
to speak, aches all over his body and inability to sleep from the intensity of
the pain, he said.
Qaraqi held the Israeli
authority responsible for Abu Hamdiya’s death due to the medical negligence and
Israel’s refusal to release him despite his serious health condition.
Qaraqi demanded the
formation of an international committee to investigate the circumstances of his
death.
