WAFA: Israel committed 382 violations against journalists in 2017

RAMALLAH, January 8, 2018 (WAFA) – The Palestine News and Information Agency, WAFA, has documented 382 violations by Israeli forces against journalists and media institutions in the occupied Palestinian territories during 2017.

It said in its annual report on Israeli violations against journalists, released on Monday, that these Israeli violations included use of live fire, rubber-coated bullets and teargas canisters against journalists, in addition to physical beating and arrest.

The report said 213 journalists were injured by live fire or rubber-coated rounds, suffocated by teargas or beaten by Israeli forces during the year. It said 142 journalists were either arrested or targeted by Israeli gun fire but were not injured, while 27 Israeli assaults on media institutions were documented.

“Although journalists wear vests with visible signs indicating their work during confrontations…, the occupation forces do not care about this and they target them directly in order to prevent the truth about [Israel’s] barbaric crimes from being known,” the report said.
