CAIRO, March 20, 2017 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas discussed on Monday with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi the recent developments in Palestine amid the increasing Israeli settlement activities and the stalled peace process.
During the meeting at al-Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo, both leaders stressed the importance of holding the Arab Summit meeting in Jordan later this month in addition to giving the utmost priority to the Palestinian cause as the Arab top issue.
They also tackled coordinating stances as well as mobilizing support to the Palestinian cause to enable the Palestinians to get their rights in the framework of a two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The presidents stressed the necessity to activate the United Nations Security Council recent resolution number 2334 which condemned the Israeli settlement and urged for its end.
President Abbas highly appreciated the Egyptian role and ongoing efforts to support the Palestinian people, specially the endeavors made to end the internal Palestinian split and achieve national Palestinian unity.
The meeting was attended by the Palestine Liberation Organization Secretary General Saeb Erekat, Member of Fatah Movement Central Committee Azzam al-Ahmed, General Intelligence Chief Majid Faraj and Palestinian Ambassador to Cairo Jamal al-Shobaky.
Abbas arrived in Cairo on Sunday after he received an invitation from Egypt‘s Sisi for talks ahead of the Arab Summit Meeting to be held in Amman later this month.
