JERUSALEM, Tuesday, July 30, 2019 (WAFA) – Dozens of Israeli police Monday summoned a four-year-old Palestinian for interrogation in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

WAFA correspondent said that four-year-old Muhammad Rabi‘ Elayyan, a resident of the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiyeh, was handed a warrant for interrogation at the police station in Salah Eddin Street in Jerusalem.

Elayyan was taken by his father, Rabi‘, today morning to the police station purportedly for hurling stones at a police vehicle.

Elayyan’s father, Rabi‘, was briefly interrogated by Israeli police and then released.

Wadi Hilweh Information Center- a Silwan-based watchdog, posted a video showing the four-year-old minor crying as he is carried by his father, who enters the police station.

In the video, dozens of Issawiyeh residents can be seen gathering in front of the police station in protest of the interrogation warrant.

The age of criminal culpability in Israel — and under Israeli military law, which applies to Palestinians in the West Bank — is 12. The arrest of a minor under the age of 12 is illegal.

For the residents of Issawiyeh, a Palestinian village of some 20,000, and other parts of occupied East Jerusalem, military raids and building demolitions are a daily reality.

The village is plagued by poor infrastructure, residents are constantly harassed by the Israeli Border Police and anyone, including children, run the risk of arbitrary arrest.

Israeli police and municipality staff frequently hand out fine notices for various violations, such as improperly maintained vehicles, severely disrupting Palestinian residents’ lives.
