JENIN, Wednesday, May 13, 2020 (WAFA) – A Palestinian was shot and injured and dozens other suffocated from Israeli military gunfire Wednesday evening in a renewed raid in Ya‘bad town, west of Jenin city.
WAFA correspondent reported that Israeli military forces barged their way into the town, as part of the ongoing manhunt for a Palestinian who killed a soldier by dropping a rock on his head a day earlier, triggering confrontations.
Soldiers opened gunfire towards local villagers who protested the raid, injuring one with a live round in his foot and causing dozens others to suffocate from tear gas inhalation.
They also ransacked several houses in the town besides to a local institution and checked the recordings of their surveillance cameras.
One villager was detained for denying soldiers access to the recordings of the surveillance cameras installed on his store.
Israeli troops rounded up 23 Palestinians from the town since predawn Tuesday.
The raids came amidst increasing tensions between Israel and the Palestinians over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s plan to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.
Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.
These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
