11, 2015 (WAFA) – Israeli military vehicles Wednesday infiltrated Gaza borders
and went nearly 150 meters into the eastern part of al-Maghazi area, in central
Gaza, according to WAFA correspondent.
Four Israeli tanks, accompanied with two army bulldozers, raided and razed agricultural land while firing toward the land and nearby residents’ home. No injuries were reported.
Almost on daily basis, Israeli army targets Palestinian residents of Gaza, whether fishermen or farmers who attempt to sail to catch fish or tend to their agricultural lands.
Despite agreements between Palestinian factions and Israel about holding off fire exchange, Israeli army continues to target fishermen sailing within the allowed fishing zone, as well as prevents farmers from accessing their land located near the borders, which were labeled as no-go “buffer” zones.
The buffer zone extends between 500 meters and 1,500 meters into the Strip, effectively turning local farms into no-go zones.
According to UNOCHA, 17% of Gaza's total land area and 35% of its agricultural land are located within the buffer zone as of 2010, directly affecting the lives and livelihoods of more than 100,000 residents of Gaza.
Israel and the Palestinian factions inked a ceasefire deal on August 26, ending the latest deadly Israeli onslaught on Gaza that claimed the lives of over 2,200 people, overwhelmingly civilians.
The ceasefire deal stipulated that Israel ease the blockade imposed on the strip and easing the restrictions on the unilaterally-imposed fishing zone off Gaza’s coast.
The most pressing key issue is Gaza reconstruction. Whole neighborhoods across the strip have been flattened and reduced to rubble by Israeli airstrikes, leaving about 475,000 Palestinians displaced.
Israel has however failed to do so, repeatedly violating the ceasefire deal through opening fire on Palestinian fishermen within the fishing zone and hindering the reconstruction.
Continuing the Cairo-brokered talks on the other key issues was repeatedly postponed in the wake of November attacks against Egyptian soldiers in the Sinai Peninsula.
Israel has imposed a tightened blockade since 2007 after Hamas won the democratic legislative elections and took over power in the strip.
