RAFAH, October 15, 2016 (WAFA) – The Egyptian authorities reopened on Saturday Rafah border crossing in the south of the Gaza Strip to allow Palestinians in Gaza to travel in and out of the besieged enclave.
Border crossing officials said hundreds students and people with a work permit or residency abroad as well as humanitarian cases seeking to leave Gaza have gathered at the terminal since the early morning hours.
They said many had already crossed into Egypt and others stuck on the Egyptian side for months were able to return to Gaza.
The crossing is supposed to remain open for two days.
The next time the borders will be open again is Wednesday and will remain open through Saturday, according to the Egyptian border authorities.
Gaza residents can only leave the Strip through Rafah crossing with Egypt, which is rarely open, or through Erez/Beit Hanoun checkpoint with Israel, which is ed to few who can obtain special exit permit mainly on humanitarian bases.
