RAMALLAH, June 18, 2016 (WAFA) – Palestinians access into Al-Aqsa Mosque on the second Friday of Ramadan hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.
The three dailies reported that a total of 200,000 Palestinian worshipers prayed in Al-Aqsa Mosque on the second Friday of Ramadan despite the heavy deployment of Israeli police.
The latest Palestinian-French contacts on convening an international conference for Middle East also hit the front page headlines in the dailies.
Highlighting a phone call made by President Mahmoud Abbas with his French counterpart Francois Hollande, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said Abbas reaffirmed his full support for the French efforts to convene the international conference.
Hollande was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida as affirming his country’s support for “building Palestinian state institutions”.
Moreover, the three dailies reported Palestinian UN Ambassador to the United Nations Ryad Mansour as announcing that the Palestinians have started talks with Egypt on the demarcation of maritime borders of the future Palestinian state.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted the suppression of weekly Friday Palestinian protests across the West Bank by Israeli forces.
They said Israeli forces quelled two peaceful protests or rallies in the Qalqiliya village of Kafr Qaddum and the Ramallah village of Ni‘lin.
The three dailies said that Israeli police detained a Palestinian from the Jenin town of Qabatiya in Jerusalem purportedly for planning to carry out a stabbing attack.
They also said that Israeli police and forces closed streets in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukabbir with large cement blocks.
Highlighting the latest development of Israeli governmental funding for illegal West Bank settlements, al-Quds said the Israeli government is scheduled to approve the allocation of NIS 74 million (almost $19,171,000) for West Bank settlements on Sunday.
Al-Quds highlighted Israeli restrictions on the construction of a Palestinian school to house 40,000 students in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina.
It said despite that Beit Hanina Society has provided a plot of land and funding and outlined a construction plan for the school, the so-called Israeli Jerusalem Municipality has obstructed the construction plan.
