(Update) Israeli Forces Detain 33 Palestinians, Assault Another in West Bank Raids

JERUSALEM, June 22, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Wednesday detained at least 33 Palestinians during overnight raids that sparked violent confrontations in several West Bank districts, said Palestine Prisoner’s Society and security sources.

Eight Palestinians were detained from Ramallah and al-Bireh, seven others from Jerusalem, three others from Hebron, two others from Bethlehem, six others from Tulkarem, four others from Qalqiliya and two others from Nablus, and another from Tubas.

Forces detained Majed Karakra, Mohammad Abu-Musallam, 18, Majdi Hreish, Taleb Tarayra, 19, Munther Hamida, 17, Amir Abu-Hussein, 15, Muhammad Badran, 13, and Mu‘in Khalaf, 26, from the central West Bank districts of Ramallah and al-Bireh.

In the Jerusalem neighborhood of Shufat, Israeli police broke into and ransacked a house belonging to Abu Khdeir family and detained Naser Abu Khdeir.

Police troops also detained four Palestinians during an overnight raid that sparked clashes in the Jerusalem village of al-Issawiya.

The detainees were identified as Tamer Darwish, 17,  Nader Muhesen, 16, Abed Abu-Saymeh, 16, and Muhammad Abu Uweis, 17.

This came as Israeli forces also detained a young Palestinian woman identified as Wi’am Hamada after storming her family house in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sur Bahir.

Another Palestinian identified as Abed Rabee was detained during a raid into the Jerusalem town of Abu Dis.

Forces also raided Anata town, northeast of Jerusalem, and fired tear gas canisters and stun grenades during clashes with locals. No injuries or detentions were reported though.

In the southern West Bank district of Hebron, forces detained Mahmoud Abu Awad, 27, after storming and thoroughly searching his family house in the Dura village of Khursa, northwest of Hebron.

Palestine Prisoner’s Society identified said Yusef al-Hur, 22, and Adham al-Bakri were also detained from Hebron.

Forces also raided several Hebron neighborhoods and Yatta and Surif towns, south and north of Hebron city. No detentions were reported though.

To the north of Hebron, in Bethlehem district, two Palestinians were detained during an overnight raid into Beit Fajjar town, south of Bethlehem. The detainees were identified as Malek Taqatqa, 18, and Bara Thwabteh, 18.

In an overnight raid into the northern West Bank district of Tulkarem, forces detained Fathi Nimer, 21, Bara Adas, 21, Ahmad Shehadeh, 19, Ahmad Sharaqa, Ayman Rmeilat, and his brother, Mu’men.

In the northern West Bank, forces stormed Azzun village, east of Qalqiliya, breaking into and ransacking the family houses of two Palestinian security officers identified as Ma‘in Radwan and Aref Shbeita.

Radwan, a Palestinian Preventive Security officer, was eventually detained by Israeli troops.

Israeli troops reportedly wreaked havoc into the house of Shbeita and physically assaulted his brother, Mohammad. Shbeita is an officer in the Palestinian National Security service.

Palestine Prisoner’s Society identified two more detainees from Qalqiliya as Adnan Zeid and Izzidin Amer.

In the northern West Bank district of Nablus, a Palestinian identified as Husam Hussein, 22, was detained from Deir al-Hatab village, east of Nablus city.

This came as troops stationed at Zaatara military checkpoint, south of Nablus city, handcuffed and detained Ahmad Jaber, 30, who comes from Tulkarem.

Another Palestinian identified as Baha Kharraz was handcuffed and detained during a raid into the northeastern West Bank district of Tubas.
