RAMALLAH, Tuesday, November 19, 2019 (WAFA) - In the presence of President Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian leadership began today a series of emergency meetings to take measures and put mechanisms to confront the serious US decisions against the Palestinian issue, the latest of which was Secretary of State Mike Pompeo‘s announcement on settlements.

The leadership affirmed that steps will be taken at home and meetings will be held for the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the Fatah Central Committee, the National Action factions, popular committees, the civil society and the government to study the necessary recommendations to fortify the home front and strengthen popular resistance in the face of attempts to liquidate the Palestinian issue by the US administration.

It stressed that action will also be taken at the Arab and international levels, including going to the United Nations Security Council and the General Assembly, the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take critical decisions aimed at protecting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people according to international law, UN laws and international organizations specialized in the implementation of international law and the protection of human rights.

It said contact will be made with all Arab and international parties and international organizations, including pushing forward the files at the International Criminal Court, in addition to communicating with all countries of the world and send important messages regarding the need to take strong and clear positions from the US decisions on Jerusalem, settlements and other issues related to the Palestinian question to take positions in support of the Palestinian stand and international law and legitimacy and the maintenance of world peace and security.

The leadership stressed the importance of establishing mechanisms to implement UN Resolution 2334 that condemned settlements as illegal under international law, in addition to completing accession to important international organizations, which constitute an important challenge.

The leadership called in its emergency meeting on the Palestinian people at home and everywhere to act to foil this conspiracy aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause.

It decided that the meetings would remain in permanent session to follow up the implementation of its decisions.
