CAIRO, January 25, 2017 (WAFA) – The State of Arab League‘s Secretary General Ahmed Abu al-Gheit Wednesday said Israel’s new settlement expansion decision affirms its policy of defiance and disregard of the international will.
Israeli occupation authorities approved on Tuesday the construction of 2,500 new settler units in a number of West Bank settlements.
Abu al-Gheit denounced the decision, which he said proves the Israeli government’s attempts to undermine any efforts exerted toward the achievement of a two-state solution.
Mahmoud Afifi, Abu al-Gheit‘s spokesman expressed in a press statement the former’s concerns over the Israeli government’s decision; maintaining that this decision could be dedicated to impose new facts on the ground by the ‘peace-opposing’ Israeli government.
He noted that this decision came in the wake of the Israeli defiance to the vision affirmed during the International Peace Conference in Paris.
The Israeli position affirms refusal of any political solutions for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, as well as to the United Nations Security Council’s Resolution 2334, which was adopted on 23 December 2016.
Abu al-Gheit warned against the dangerous implications of such Israeli policy on achieving international peace and security and urged the international community to stand in the face of the Israeli government’s policies including its insistence on settlement building.
“This would forever close the door on any peaceful settlement for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”
