Israeli Forces Knock Down Palestinian-Owned Structures near Hebron

HEBRON, March 22, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces Tuesday knocked down a number of Palestinian-owned structures and seized solar cells in the village of Janba, in Masafer Yatta area to the south of Hebron, according to a local activist.

Coordinator of the popular committees against the wall and settlements in southern Hebron, Rateb al-Jabour, informed WAFA that armed soldiers, accompanied by heavy machinery,  stormed  the village and proceeded to demolish a number of structures, including three residential sheds,  health facilities, residential tents, and an animal barn.

Forces also seized the solar cells in the area.

The demolished residential structures belonged to two locals from the family of Makhamreh.

According to an OCHA report covering the period between 23 February - 7 March 2016, “The number of structures demolished since the start of 2016 is already 70 per cent of the demolitions recorded in all of 2015, while the number of people displaced is nearly 68 per cent of the total 2015 figure.”

On 17 February, the Coordinator for Humanitarian and UN Development Activities for the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt), Robert Piper, called for an immediate halt to the destruction of Palestinian-owned property in the occupied West Bank and for respect for international law.
