Germany provides 2M euro for Humanitarian Agencies in Gaza

RAMALLAH, April 30, 2018 (WAFA) - Germany Monday announced support for the work of humanitarian agencies in the Gaza Strip with two additional contributions amounting to 2 million euro.

The German Representative in Ramallah, Peter Beerwerth, said in a press release that “Gaza’s hospitals and medical centers are on the brink of collapse, with terrible consequences for its approximately two million inhabitants."

The contribution was announced in the light of the ongoing demonstrations at the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip. They are meant to allow humanitarian organizations in Gaza to address urgent needs in the health sector as well as to conduct protection monitoring.

Beerwerth added, “Humanitarian Agencies are doing an exceptional job in Gaza and their work - especially in the field of emergency medical assistance – has become even more important during the past five weeks.”

The German Federal Government contributed 1 million euro for OCHA’s Humanitarian Pooled Fund the occupied Palestinian territories in order to support the Humanitarian Country Team to launch reserve allocations to programs in Gaza.

Additionally, Germany increased its already allocated funding for the activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza and the West Bank by 1 million euro.
