RAMALLAH, Tuesday, January 14, 2020 (WAFA) – Ahmad Zahran, 42, from the Ramallah-area village of Deir Abu Mishaal, ended last night his hunger strike after 113 days of fast following an agreement with the Israeli authorities in which he will undergo security interrogation after which his demand for an end to his administrative detention will be determined, according to Jawad Boulus, attorney for the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission.

Zahran, a father of four children, went on hunger strike to demand an end to his long administrative detention without charge or trial and based on secret evidence.

Zahran had earlier observed 39 days of hunger strike which he ended after he was promised to be released from administrative detention. However, he resumed his hunger strike after the Israeli authorities reneged on that promise.

During his second hunger strike, Zahran’s health deteriorated seriously and had to be admitted to hospital. He was reported to be suffering from low heart beats, pain throughout his body, critical drop in saline level and loss of over 35 kilograms of his weight.

He has served a total of 15 years in Israeli prisons for resisting the occupation.
