RAMALLAH, October 18, 2016 (WAFA) – The Palestinian government welcomed on Tuesday a recent UNESCO vote on Jerusalem and al-Aqsa Mosque.
The cabinet welcome came as the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) formally adopted the resolution in its Tuesday meeting.
Omar Awadallah, director of the UN department in the Foreign Ministry, told WAFA that the resolution was adopted without a vote.
The cabinet said in a statement issued after its weekly meeting in Ramallah that the vote, first passed on Thursday by 24 votes in favor to six against and 26 abstentions, was a just one which supports the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
It said the vote is evidence of the international community’s rejection of Israeli policies that try to falsify the history of the holy city.
