RAMALLAH, August 29, 2018 (WAFA) - The chairman of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees‘ Affairs, Qadri Abu Baker, confirmed on Wednesday that the commission is collaborating with the staff of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Civil Affairs Authority to accomplish the second visit for families of detainees in Israeli jails at the beginning of October.

Abu Baker stated during the meeting with a delegation from the ICRC headed by David Kuzini, the head of mission in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories, that the joint efforts are continuous to accomplish the needed budget, the field crews that accompany the buses, preparing a special electronic program to enter the data of the families and issuing permits in cooperation with the Civil Affairs.

He also stressed the importance of the role of the ICRC in allowing the families to visit their sons and daughters in Israeli jails, calling for a continuous cooperation between the Commission and the Red Cross.

For his part, Kuzini stated that the ICRC is always working to carry out its duties towards detainees in accordance with the framework of its work in the occupied territories, and within the established international standards.

He added "we work with you in continuous cooperation to accomplish the second visit of detainees because we know how important it is to the detainee and his family at the humanitarian level, and we are always ready to collaborate with the commission and its staff to carry out our duties towards detainees."

The two parties discussed the condition of detention in which the sick detainees are held at the so-called Ramleh Hospital, and the treatment of detainees who go on open hunger strike.
