RAMALLAH, Sunday, October 13, 2019 (WAFA) – Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails Ismail Ali, who has been on hunger strike for 82 days in protest of his illegal administrative detention, is in a critical health situation, today said the Palestinian Authority’s Detainees Affairs Commission.

Ali has reached a very critical stage and is suffering from a sharp drop in heart beats, loss of weight, inability to move limbs, and severe headache and stomachache.

Last week, Ali was moved to hospital following a severe deterioration in his health, and was later transferred to solitary confinement in Ramla prison.

Ali was arrested in January 12, 2019 and was placed in administrative detention, without a charge or trial.

Israel’s widely condemned policy of administrative detention allows detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals usually ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.

“Israel‘s use of administrative detention blatantly violates the restrictions of international law. Israel carries it out in a highly classified manner that denies detainees the possibility of mounting a proper defense,” says Israeli human rights group B’Tselem.
