RAMALLAH, February 27, 2016 (WAFA) - The killing of a Palestinian-American teen by Israeli forces following alleged stabbing attack at the DCO checkpoint, north of Ramallah, hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.
The three dailies reported that Israeli forces shot dead a teen from the Ramallah village of Deir Dibwan after he allegedly attempted to stab soldiers at Beit El checkpoint.
It is worth adding in this regard that the teen was identified as Palestinian-American Mahmoud Shaalan, 17.
Highlighting weekly Friday clashes across the West Bank and Gaza, the three dailies reported that scores of Palestinians were shot and wounded.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added that Israeli forces quelled a protest calling for the re-opening of al-Shuhada Street, which has been shut down since the 1994 Ibrahimi Mosque massacre, and detained a lawyer and a journalist.
Al-Ayyam reported that Israeli undercover forces detained four young Palestinian men from the Jerusalem refugee camp of Shufat.
Besides, the death of former Palestinian political prisoner Omar Nayef inside the Palestinian embassy in Bulgaria hit the front page headlines in the dailies.
The dailies reported that former Palestinian prisoner Omar Nayef was assassinated inside the Palestinian embassy in Bulgaria and that President Mahmoud Abbas has ordered an investigation to be opened into the assassination crime.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida added in this regard that Israel’s overseas intelligence agency Mossad is accused of being behind Nayef’s death.
Furthermore, news that Palestinian hunger-striking detainee Mohammad al-Qiq ended his 94 consecutive days of hunger strike, after reaching a deal with Israeli authorities hit the front page headlines in the dailies.
The dailies reported that al-Qiq ended his 94-day hunger strike. Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported that he would be released on May 21.
Al-Ayyam added that under the deal, Israel has agreed not to renew the administrative detention of al-Qiq.
Regarding the series of meetings held between Palestinian Finance Minister Shukri Bishara and his Israeli counterpart Moshe Kahlon, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israel has decided to transfer NIS 500,000,000 of withheld tax revenues to the Palestinian Authority (PA).
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added that Israel has also decided to issue permits to work in Israel for thousands of Palestinians workers.
Following media reports that Iran would pay $30,000 to every Palestinian family whose house was demolished by Israeli forces and $7,000 for every family who has lost a relative, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Palestinian President’s Office as stating that they were not aware of such plans.
