RAMALLAH, Saturday, October 20, 2018 (WAFA) – A proposed Israeli law that would impose stiff prison term on activists in the anti-Israel boycott movement seeks to terrorize Israel critics, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

The Israeli government‘s ministerial committee for legislation is going to discuss on Sunday a bill proposed by Likud members calling for imposing between seven and 10-year prison sentence on anyone active in the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement and calls for boycotting Israel culturally and economically as long as it occupies Palestinian land and subjugates millions of Palestinians to the daily horrors of an oppressive occupation.

“The Occupying Power (Israel) is quickly moving from an apartheid state to a fascist state,” said the Foreign Ministry in a statement.

Israel is seeking to terrorize its critics through legislating laws that clearly violate international law, it added.

The Foreign Ministry condemned these laws, specifically the recently-adopted Nation-State Basic Law, which was condemned as racist because it denies the rights of more than 20 percent of Israel’s non-Jewish population as well as the Palestinians living under Israeli occupation.

It said such laws adopted by the right-wing Israeli government “violate the principles of human rights.”
