RAMALLAH, June 19, 2018 (WAFA) – Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee Member Hanan Ashrawi condemned on Tuesday the attack on Palestinian demonstrators in Gaza who were calling for an end to the Palestinian division and the cessation of all measures in the Gaza Strip.
"The attack by these unidentified individuals on representatives of Palestinian prisoners and our civil society organizations, journalists, employees, and other demonstrators is entirely unacceptable and unpatriotic and is a flagrant violation of the right to free assembly and freedom of expression,” she said in a statement.
“In addition, it is a violation of the basic law and international conventions to which Palestine is party.”
The PLO official demanded “an independent and professional investigation to hold those who carried out such an attack accountable and to ensure that such violations do not recur. The perpetrators must be brought to swift justice."
Hamas security forces, some in civilian clothing, attacked on Monday a protest organized in Gaza by former prisoners calling for an end for the intra-Palestinian division and resumption of payment of their full salaries.
