Recollecting Jenin Horrible Days
JENIN, April 4, 2004 (WAFA) -Mahmood al-Fayed 80 frequently visits the vast destroyed area in Jenin Refugee Camp to shed tears at the place where his handicapped son Jamal 37, was buried alive under the debris of their house.... Al-Fayed's visits to that place have become one of his habits since the last two years, when Israel had committed its horrible carnage at Jenin Refugee Camp, killing 60 and destroying 810 houses.... The aged and frail al-Fayed recollects the catastrophe and says: "missiles and bombs were drizzling plentifully on houses, my wife and I could not manage to leave because of the state of our handicapped son Jamal", he stopped talking for a while, with tears filling his tiny eyes, and then carried on talking "when the bulldozer started knocking down the house, I went out together with my wife, pleading the bulldozer driver not to demolish it, telling him that our handicapped son is still inside and we can not help getting him out"....
In a sobbing voice that can hardly speak up, al-Fayed added, "the driver cursed me and continued pulling down the house, Jamal died under the wreckage, his dead body is still where he died, the heaps of rubbles prevented us from digging his body out and give him a proper burial", al-Fayed covered his face with his shriveled hands repeating "we could not give him a proper burial".... Al-Fayed now lives outside Jenin Refugee Camp. He was forced to depart again as ge he was previously forced to leave Za'areen village for Jenin in1948 by Zionist Gurrelias.... Israeli mass killing separated dear neighbours. It dispersed more than 2500 refugees to leave Jenin Refugee Camp and rent houses at nearby villages and towns.... Akram Abu al-Seba', a media activist at the "popular committee for services" , which was founded for the relief of refugees and civilians, said that Israel's carnage left permanent troubles for the camp inhabitants.... "Jenin refugees suffer a social dispersion and longing for dear relatives, sons and neighbours…many refugees suffer permanent retardation due to live ammunition, missiles and land-mine injuries", Abu al-Seba' said.... Abu al-Seba' added that the number of the handicapped is 97 who need enduring care and rehabilitation to qualify them for social integration.... He also said that the continuing Israeli aggression caused many troubles to children as the majority of the camp children suffer involuntary urination, while others suffer aggressive moods.... Most of the camp families have no regular income, where unemployment covers more than 75% of those who are able to work. This is apparently because of the puny Palestinian labour market and Israel's rejection of permits for the camp workers.... Israel does not give work permits for Palestinians whose sons, brothers or relatives were killed, arrested, or wounded by its forces. This has given rise to the rate of unemployment among the refugees of the Jenin Camp.... On this day, Inhabitants of Jenin refugee camp remember the dear people who were peacefully leading happy lives together with their families, they recollect those sweet days which are found no more. The camp inhabitants still have a flicker of hope for a better life away from Israeli Occupation that deprived them of their beloved dears....
