JERUSALEM, Monday, October 14, 2019 (WAFA) – Several members of the Saudi football team, who arrived in the West Bank on Sunday to play a football match against the Palestinian national football team, visited Jerusalem today and Al-Aqsa Mosque, where they held prayers, according to witnesses.

Waqf director Azzam Khatib and Aqsa director Omar Kiswani briefed the Saudi visitors about the situation at the Muslim holy site, particularly Israeli police harassment of the worshipper and state-sponsored attempts by Jewish fanatics to take it over.

Israeli police have intensified presence at the gates into Al-Aqsa Mosque and prevented many people from entering the wall holy compound.

Police also detained at the Mosque several members of the Palestinian security, including Said Atari, head of the Palestinian Preventive Security in Jerusalem, who were accompanying the Saudi delegation on their visit.

The Saudi national football team, on a first visit ever to the occupied Palestinian territories, is supposed to play against its Palestinian counterpart tomorrow at Faisal Husseini Stadium in Al Ram, just north of occupied Jerusalem, for the qualifying games for the World Cup 2022 and Asia Cup 2023.
