CAIRO, December 6, 2017 (WAFA) – Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi said on Wednesday that Jerusalem file should be handled carefully, Egyptian official MENA news agency reported.
His comments came during a meeting with the Egyptian acting Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly and a number of ministers to discuss the recent regional developments, mainly the Palestinian issue.
The meeting tackled the decision expected to be made by the US administration on the relocation of its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem as well as the possible negative consequences of the decision on the efforts to resume peace talks.
During the meeting, Sisi stressed the importance of dealing carefully with Jerusalem issue for its legal, religious and historic status for the Arab and Muslim peoples, according to MENA.
US President Donald Trump is expected to announce on Wednesday US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel‘s capital and relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a step that has already generated widespread regional and world condemnation.
The international community does not recognize Israel‘s hold on East Jerusalem, which it occupied in June 1967.
