RAMALLAH, April 12, 2016 (WAFA) – Sealing the family house of a Palestinian detainee accused of partaking in the stoning of a settler’s vehicle together with Israeli forces’ detention raids across the West Bank hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.

The three dailies reported in their main front page news items that Israeli forces sealed the family house of Abed Dawiyat in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sur Baher.

It is worth noting in this regard that Dawiyat, already detained, is accused of partaking in the stoning of an Israeli settler’s vehicle in September 2015. The settler lost control of his vehicle and later succumbed to his wounds after being hospitalized for critical injuries.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted detention raids in their main front page news articles.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida explained that Israeli forces detained 20 Palestinians, including a girl, from the West Bank.

Al-Quds added that several Palestinians were shot and injured by Israeli forces as the latter raided the Jenin village of Barta‘a, the Jerusalem refugee camp of Shu‘fat and the Betlehem refugee camps of Aida and al-‘Azza.

The three dailies also reported that Israeli settlers forced their way into Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and made calls for mass intrusions into the holy site to mark the Jewish Passover holiday.

Al-Ayyam reported that Israeli forces infiltrated Gaza border to the east of Rafah city and opened fire toward al-Fakhari and Khuza‘a towns.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli authorities issued administrative detention orders for 35 Palestinian detainees.

Highlighting Israeli military prosecution’s decision to close the investigation into the killing of 17-year-old Palestinian teenage in July 2015, Israeli human rights group B’Tselem termed the decision as an “integral part” of Israeli military’s “whitewash mechanism” of its crimes.

Highlighting Palestinian children in Israeli detention, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted statements by Human Rights Watch that Israeli forces have used unnecessary force in the detention of Palestinian children.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Palestinian Preventive Security Service thwarted an illicit trade deal to sell a precious archeological sculpture worth US$ 1 million in the northern West Bank city of Tulkarem.

Al-Ayyam reported that Israel has demanded Bulgaria to hand over the body of Omar al-Nayef.

It reported UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) as stating that 75,000 internally-displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are still in need of homes.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Labor Minister Mamoun Abu Shahla as calling for an investigation into Israel’s theft of US$ 8 billion belonging to Palestinian workers.   

Internationally, the three dailies reported US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders as stating that supporting Israel doesn’t mean ignoring the Palestinians.

He was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida as calling on the US to adopt a more “balanced” approach in the Middle East.

Al-Quds reported that Iran received the first delivery of Russian S-300 air defense missiles.
