RAMALLAH, Wednesday, December 26, 2018 (WAFA) – Minister of Justice Ali Abu Diak Wednesday called on Hamas to abide by the ruling of the Constitutional Court on the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC).
The Constitutional Court ruled on December 12 to dissolve the 12-year-old PLC, which has been defunct since Hamas split from the Palestinian Authority in July 2007 and took over control of the Gaza Strip.
Abu Diak said in a statement that Hamas should respect the court’s ruling, and therefore any meeting it claims to be holding in the parliament building in Gaza is legally void.
Hamas has rejected the court’s ruling and continues to hold meetings for its parliament members in Gaza.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian security forces prevented Hamas lawmakers in the West Bank from holding a meeting on Wednesday at the parliament building in Ramallah under the pretext they were no longer representatives after the Constitutional Court had ruled to dissolve the parliament and end their work.
