Israel issues 46 administrative detention orders against Palestinian detainees

RAMALLAH, October 23, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli authorities issued 46 administrative detention order against  Palestinian detainees, including a member of the Palestinian Legislative council (PLC), Sunday said the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

A PPS lawyer said forces renewed the administrative detention of PLC member, Hasan Yousif, for the third consecutive time. To be noted Yousif was sentenced several times to jail,  amounting to 18 years in total, including actual sentences and under administrative detention, the last of which was on October, 20th, 2015.

The lawyer noted that the detention orders, without charge or trial, included 13 new orders, whereas the rest received renewed sentences.

Administrative detention is the imprisonment of Palestinians without charge or trial and on the basis of secret evidence for up to six month periods, indefinitely renewable by Israeli military courts.

Palestinian detainees have continuously resorted to open-ended hunger strikes as a way to protest their illegal administrative detention and to demand an end to this policy which violates international law.
