Palestinians rebuild West Bank school demolished by Israel

BETHLEHEM, September 9, 2017 (WAFA) – Palestinians rebuilt an elementary school in Jubet al-Dhib, east of Bethlehem, which was demolished by Israel on August 23, Hasan Breijieh, a local activist, said on Saturday.

He told WAFA that locals along with education ministry officials and activists rebuilt on Friday night five classrooms using brick and metal roofing.

Israeli soldiers attempted to stop the reconstruction of the school but residents defied them and continued to build the classrooms, he said.

Israel demolished the school, which provided classes for 64 Palestinian students from grade one to four, on the ground it was built without permit. The international community has condemned the destruction of the school, which was built to serve several small underprivileged Palestinian communities in the area with European support.
