Abu Rudeineh: US decisions are tantamount to declaring war on Palestinians

RAMALLAH, March 27, 2018 (WAFA) - Recent US decisions, particularly those by the Congress that calls for a halt to direct aid to the Palestinian Authority, the addition of $700 million for the Israeli occupation army and the continued threat to cut off aid to the Palestinian people are tantamount to declaring war on the Palestinian people and support for the policy of occupation and aggression, presidential spokesman, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, said on Tuesday..

He said the announcement by US President Donald Trump recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, moving its embassy to Jerusalem and considering the issue of refugees off the table while supporting the settlements confirms beyond a shadow of a doubt that the United States cannot be an honest mediator peace making.

Abu Rudeineh said that US cut in aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and its threat to stop aid to the Palestinian Authority while linking it to the payment of the salaries of families of martyrs and prisoners will only increase the Palestinian people‘s steadfastness, adherence to their national rights and support for their leadership that is holding on to the national constants.

He said that the Palestinian leadership, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, and the Palestinian people behind it, will face these challenges firmly and with force and will not allow any suspicious projects aimed at eliminating the Palestinian cause to pass.

He said that Jerusalem and its holy places, and any right of the Palestinian people, are not for sale or trade and that true peace can only be achieved by the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders.

The official spokesman for the presidency said that the pledge by the United States to provide $705 million to support the Israeli occupation army while cutting off aid for our people, as well as the statements of its representatives in Israel and the United Nations will contribute to straining the atmosphere and implicating the US administration in positions that will harm its interests and the interests of everybody else.

He concluded by saying that the biased American positions and dangerous statements against our people and leadership constitute a clear violation of international laws and will create negative atmosphere that will affect the region and the world.
