Erekat: Deal of century was prepared by the settlements council in 2011

RAMALLAH, Thursday, January 30, 2020 (WAFA) – The American so-called “deal of the century” revealed by US President Donald Trump on Tuesday was prepared by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Settlements Council in 2011 and was presented to the Palestinians at that time, according to Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

Speaking on Palestine TV last night, Erekat said the Trump plan announced from Washington is not a peace deal but rather a plan for an apartheid system.

He pointed out that he considers Trump and Israel have formally withdrawn from the Oslo accords and all peace references the minute they announced their deal, stressing that this plan is not a deal but a dictation to the Palestinians and a forgery of history, culture and civilization.

He said a delegation from the PLO factions will go to the Gaza Strip next week to work on ending the division between the West Bank and Gaza and to discuss ways to confront the Trump deal.

The PLO official pointed out that the only country that implemented the decisions of Arab and Islamic summits to sever ties with the United States after its recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the transfer of its embassy to it is the State of Palestine.

He said a meeting for the Arab League at the level of Arab foreign ministers will be held on Saturday in Cairo and will be attended by President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss the Arab response to the "deal of the century" and the implementation of Arab decisions, particularly what came in the Arab Peace Initiative.

He explained that the role for establishing the Palestinian National Authority in 1993 was to transfer the Palestinian people from occupation to independence and statehood.
