JERUSALEM, January 24, 2018 (WAFA) - US Special Representative Jason Greenblatt Wednesday praised the launch of 3G cellular services by Palestinian mobile phone operators Jawwal and Wataniya in the West Bank.
He said in a press release the US government is proud to have worked closely with the Palestinian Authority, Israel, the operators, and the Office of the Quartet to encourage this tangible improvement in Palestinian lives.
Greenblatt said Palestinian-operated 3G services in the West Bank enable mobile internet access, empowering entrepreneurship and innovation, and opening up new possibilities for service delivery and communications.
“Information and communication technology transcends borders. 3G services are expected to provide a significant boost to the national economy, create jobs and generate much-needed revenues for the PA,” adding that “In today’s globalized world, and access to high-speed mobile services strengthens users’ connections to the global community.”
He said the US government will continue discussions with all relevant stakeholders on facilitating more advanced technologies for both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
Greenblatt affirmed that the US will continue to work with both the Israelis and Palestinians to improve the local economy, underscoring President Trump’s efforts to achieve a comprehensive agreement.
“The road is not always smooth, but 3G is one example of what is possible when we work together,” he concluded.
