RAMALLAH, Monday, October 22, 2018 (WAFA) - The request by Fatah’s Revolutionary Council (FRC) to the Palestinian Central Council (PCC) to dissolve the Legislative Council will be discussed as an emergency item on the agenda of the PCC, which will be held on October 28 and 29, the president of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), Salim Zanoun, said on Monday.

In its last meeting in Ramallah, the FRC called on the PCC, the second highest decision making body in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) after the PNC, to dissolve the Legislative Council, the Palestinian parliament in the West Bank and Gaza, and to hold new presidential and legislative elections.

Zanoun told the official Voice of Palestine radio that this item will be on the agenda of the PCC when it meets in Ramallah around the end this month.

The Legislative Council has been inactive since the Hamas armed takeover of the Gaza Strip in 2007 and its separation from the West Bank, one year after the last legislative elections that brought Hamas to power.

Zanoun expressed hope that all members of the PLO would participate in the upcoming PCC meeting, which is supposed to discuss important issues regarding relations with Israel and the United States, following the latter’s anti-Palestinian steps including moving the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, closing of the PLO’s representative office in Washington and defunding the United Nations Palestine refugee agency, UNRWA.
