AMMAN, Sunday, November 10, 2019 (WAFA) – Israelis were prevented today from entering the Jordanian border areas of Al-Baqura and al-Ghumar after a deal allowing Israeli farmers to work in the land there expired, 25 years after Jordan agreed to rent the land to Israel for 25 years.
Since the two countries signed the deal in 1994, Jordan has allowed Israeli farmers access to the territories of al-Baqura in the north and al-Ghumar in the south under a renewable 25-year arrangement.
In October last, however, Jordan announced that it would terminate the lease agreement and take over the two areas.
Al-Baqura, located on a spit of land where the Jordan and Yarmuk rivers meet, is about 250 acres in size, while al-Ghamr is about 300 acres.
