Prisoners Deprived Basic Humanitarian Services, says Prisoners’ Society

RAMALLAH, February 7, 2016 (WAFA) – Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli Etzion prison continue to be deprived of basic needs, including hot water and adequate food, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS).

Jacklin Mafarjeh, a PPS attorney, said the prisoners in Etzion are living in foul-smelling rooms and are deprived of cleaning supplies, which further exacerbates their suffering in the very cold winter atmosphere.

Mafarjeh said at times of trial, the prisoners are being kept in caravans for a long time without allowing them access to food or water.

According to the Council for European Palestinian Relations (CEPR), poor conditions in Israeli prisons have led to the deterioration of health for a large number of Palestinian prisoners.

"Prison clinics have become renowned for offering only aspirin for all health treatments and physicians within the clinics are all soldiers," CEPR said in a report.

Currently, more than 6,700 Palestinian prisoners are held in Israeli jails as political prisoners.
