RAMALLAH, July 14, 2016 (WAFA) – The killing of a Palestinian by Israeli forces during a predawn raid into the Jerusalem town of Ar-Ram hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.
The three dailies reported that Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian and critically injured another during a raid into the Jerusalem town of Ar-Ram.
Al-Ayyam explained Israeli forces “executed” a 23-year-old Palestinian, identified as Anwar al-Salaymeh, who got married two months ago and whose spouse is pregnant.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported Israeli bulldozers demolished three Palestinian houses in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukabir.
The three dailies said Palestinian locals in the Ramallah villages of Nalin and Deir Qiddis prevented Israeli bulldozers from leveling their agricultural lands.
They also said Israeli has approved the construction of 90 new settler units in Gilo settlement, south of Jerusalem.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam highlighted the Israeli policy of double standards in terms of the demolition of family houses of Palestinians accused or involved in alleged or actual attacks against Israeli settlers and troops.
They said parents of Muhammed Abu Khdeir are anticipating to receive a response from Israel’s Supreme Court over their petition demanding the demolition of the family houses of the three Jewish settlers convicted in the burning to death of their son.
Both al-Quds and al-Ayyam covered the first public remarks made by United Nations’ Special Coordinator for the Middle East Nickolay Mladenov following the publication of the Middle East Quartet’s report on July 1.
Al-Quds reported Mladenov as stating the situation was approaching “the point of no return”.
He was reported in both dailies as warning: “the only alternative to the two-state solution … is perpetual violence ]here in Israel and Palestine and entangling this conflict into the broader problems of this region.”
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported member of Fatah Central Committee Azzam al-Ahmad slamming the Quartet’s report as a “breach of the international community’s trust.”
Moreover, al-Quds and al-Ayyam highlighted Israeli military chief Gadi Eisenkot’s defense of his decision to appoint controversial chief rabbi despite public outcry over his apparent endorsement of rape during wartime.
Al-Ayyam said Eisenkot defended his decision to appoint Eyak Karim, who endorsed the rape of non-Jewish females by soldiers during wartime, the military’s next chief rabbi.
Al-Quds added that Karim has also endorsed killing Palestinians who are shot and injured by Israeli forces for alleged or actual attacks against Israeli soldiers and settlers.
Finally, al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israel opened a major border crossing with Gaza to allow the passage of buses and vehicles for the first time in nine years.
