RAMALLAH, June 15, 2017 (WAFA) - Palestine’s ambassador to United Kingdom, Manuel Hassassian, Thursday hailed statement by British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson in which he condemned Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank.
Johnson condemned on Tuesday the Israeli announcement to build 3000 new housing units in illegal West Bank settlements.
“Settlements are illegal under international law, and not conducive to peace,” he said in a statement. “This spike in settlement activity makes a two state solution, with an Israel that is safe from terrorism and a Palestinian state that is viable and sovereign, harder to achieve.”
Hassassian said the statement confirms that the UK was committed to a two-state solution and that East Jerusalem was occupied by Israel.
"This British position will have a positive impact on the United States and the European Union, especially as Britain plays an important role in the Middle East policies," Hassassian told Voice of Palestine radio.
