RAMALLAH, August 28, 2016 (WAFA) - PLO Executive Committee Member Hanan Ashrawi expressed support to the efforts of Palestinian entrepreneurs in their pursuit to make PayPal services available in the occupied Palestinian Territories.
Several tech entrepreneurs sent PayPal‘s CEO Dan Schulman a letter asking him to provide PayPal’s services in the oPt.
In a show of support, Ashrawi called on him "to extend service to Palestinians as PayPal already serves the Israeli settlers living illegally among them."
She stressed, "Without access to PayPal, Palestinian entrepreneurs, nonprofits and others face routine difficulties in receiving payments for business and charitable purposes."
"PayPal‘s absence is also problematic for the overall economy as IT is one of the only sectors with the potential to grow under status quo conditions of the Israeli occupation," Ashrawi explained.
PayPal proudly pronounced its values of inclusion and fairness when it terminated plans to open a new operations center in North Carolina due to the state‘s enactment of discriminatory legislation."
"We hope PayPal can exhibit the same courage and leadership in ensuring that Palestinians can have access to PayPal‘s services, regardless of ethnicity or religion," she concluded.
