RAMALLAH, January 17, 2018 (WAFA) – PLO Executive Committee Member Hanan Ashrawi stressed the imperative of European countries to hold Israel accountable and to undertake serious measures to stop its persistent violations of international law.
Ashrawi’s statement came during a meeting with Head of the Representative Office of Hungary Csaba Rada at the PLO Headquarters in Ramallah.
Ashrawi and Rada discussed the recent political developments, as well as the global implications and consequences of the US administration‘s decision-making regarding Palestine.
Ashrawi condemned the US decision to freeze funding to UNRWA, which safeguards more than six million Palestinian refugees and provides them with basic and essential services.
Both parties acknowledged the importance of developing and augmenting bilateral relations and cooperation between Palestine and Hungary, and in that view Ashrawi affirmed: "It is our hope to start a new Palestinian-Hungarian conversation, to dispel misunderstandings and to forge a better relationship."
Rada also discussed Hungary‘s commitment to education and stated that the Hungarian government recently provided fifty scholarships for Palestinian students.
